Mini-Review: Lab Rats, Apes and More Animals in Michel Gondry and Charlie Kaufman’s Human Nature (2001)
Puff (Rhys Ifans) is a horny, untamed man who lived in the wilderness all his life. His father raised him to be an ape. One day Nathan Bronfman (Tim Robbins), a doctor obsessed with table manners and his girlfriend Lila (Patricia Arquette) an attractive woman who suffers from a rare disease that makes her body hairy, go for a walk in the forest. As you’d expect they stumble upon Puff. Bronfman decides to take the man-ape to his lab to study him and train him to become human. Things start to get complicated when Gabrielle (Miranda Otto), Dr. Bronfman’s sexy French assistant comes into the mix. Continue reading

Review: Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) is a Triumphant Tale of Greed, Excess and Pure Id
Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a young stock broker with only one thing on his mind: Making money. After the stock market crash of Black Monday, he loses his job, but not his drive to become rich. Together with Donnie Azoff (Jonah Hill), a guy he randomly meets at a diner, creates his own company and reinvents himself as the Wolf of Wall Street. Due to the higher commissions that come from selling penny stocks, Jordan and his team of weed dealers are able to grow and prosper. The bigger their company, the bigger the parties. However their excessive lifestyle of sex, drugs and fraud can’t go on forever. Especially when nosy and incorruptible FBI agent Patrick Denham (Kyle Chandler) starts snooping around. Continue reading

It’s a cool website by the way, if you liked the film I’m sure you’ll enjoy browsing it and find out “everything about everything”. Actually, it’s a blog. I’m sorry: A Spike Jonze Blog. Even better! Interview-Review: Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa (2013): A Candid Camera Film: From The Guys Who Brought You Jackass
1) What is Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa about?
That’s a silly title right? Well, basically it’s Johnny Knoxville in a lot of makeup (so much makeup it got them an Oscar nomination) doing what he does best: Playing a series of practical jokes on random strangers, trying to be outrageous, pulling crazy stunts, making people and just having a lot of fun goofing around. There is a loose story set around all the gags, about a grandpa having to drive his grandson to his father, but the narrative only serves as a frame and it’s not really what you take away from the film. Hello, I’m here and I’m going to discuss Spike Jonze’s new film Her in as much depth as I possibly can. If you haven’t seen the Spike Jonze Love Story, I highly recommend watching the film, before reading this essay. If you don’t do that, there will be literally no future for you. Your operating system will dump you and replace you with thousands of sexy OS’ and you will never finish that silly pointless hologram video game. Just kidding, but also not. Watch Her first, then come back and let me know your thoughts in the comments section. Thanks. Continue reading

Mini-Review: Electric Dreams (1984) is the Definition of Cheesy 80s Cinema
Miles Harding (Lenny von Dohlen) is an architect living in San Francisco. One day, after a conversation with one of his colleagues he decides that buying a portable electronic agenda is a great idea to better organize his work. At the store they’re all out of whatever you’d call the precursor of an iPad, so he gets a personal computer instead. After discovering a lot of cool features, he decides to download all the data from his bosses’ computer. One evening he accidentally spills a bottle of champagne on his PC. Ever since that incident the thing starts to develop some sort of sentient artificial intelligence. Oh and then there’s some stuff about Virginia Madsen and a cello, but I was mostly interested in the vintage technology part, so I didn’t really pay attention to that. Continue reading
