Mini-Review: Electric Dreams (1984) is the Definition of Cheesy 80s Cinema

Miles Harding (Lenny von Dohlen) is an architect living in San Francisco. One day, after a conversation with one of his colleagues he decides that buying a portable electronic agenda is a great idea to better organize his work. At the store they’re all out of whatever you’d call the precursor of an iPad, so he gets a personal computer instead. After discovering a lot of cool features, he decides to download all the data from his bosses’ computer. One evening he accidentally spills a bottle of champagne on his PC. Ever since that incident the thing starts to develop some sort of sentient artificial intelligence. Oh and then there’s some stuff about Virginia Madsen and a cello, but I was mostly interested in the vintage technology part, so I didn’t really pay attention to that.  Continue reading

Sofia Coppola to Co-Write and Produce ‘Fairyland: A Memoir of My Father’ Adaptation

After releasing her latest film The Bling Ring this year, designing a new handbag for Louis Vuitton and directing a videoclip for her husbands’ band (Phoenix)  Sofia Coppola is back to work with a new film project. This time she will be collaborating with photographer Andrew Durham who will co-write the script with her. The film will be an adaptation of Alysia Abbott’s memoir Fairyland: A Memoir of My Father. Sofia will also be producing the film along with her brother Roman, though at this point it’s not clear whether she will be directing as well. It would be the first time that she writes a script she doesn’t direct. Then again it’s also the first time she co-writes a feature film with someone (she previously only shared screenwriting credits on her short film Lick the Star).  Continue reading
