Second unit filming has begun! If you’re as excited as I am for
Werner Herzog‘s upcoming film Queen of the Desert (I hope you read that title with a German accent), I highly recommend following the Queen of the Desert film blog. I will try to keep you updated for the most important news, but I’m not going to be able to post everything about and around the movie like they do. According to said blog, pre-shoots for Herzog’s new film began on December 18th, 2013 in Morocco.  Continue reading

Sofia Coppola to Co-Write and Produce ‘Fairyland: A Memoir of My Father’ Adaptation

SofiaCoppolaPhotoCreditAndrewDurham
After releasing her latest film The Bling Ring this year, designing a new handbag for Louis Vuitton and directing a videoclip for her husbands’ band (Phoenix)  Sofia Coppola is back to work with a new film project. This time she will be collaborating with photographer Andrew Durham who will co-write the script with her. The film will be an adaptation of Alysia Abbott’s memoir Fairyland: A Memoir of My Father. Sofia will also be producing the film along with her brother Roman, though at this point it’s not clear whether she will be directing as well. It would be the first time that she writes a script she doesn’t direct. Then again it’s also the first time she co-writes a feature film with someone (she previously only shared screenwriting credits on her short film Lick the Star).  Continue reading

First Shoegaze Teaser Trailer for Gregg Araki’s White Bird in a Blizzard (2014)

white-bird-in-a-blizzard01
Looks like Gregg Araki‘s French produced Thriller White Bird in a Blizzard, starring Shailene Woodley and Eva Green, is being pushed back for a 2014 release and a premiere at the Sundance Film Festival 2014. Based on the French novel Un Oiseau blanc dans le blizzard (literal translation: “A White Bird in the Blizzard”) the film just got a first exciting trailer. After Gregg Araki’s crazy 2010 film Kaboom it looks like he’s back to some more “normal” material, whatever that means for him. The film is about a 17-year-old girl (Shailene Woodley) whose mom (Eva Green) disappears (or runs away on her?).  Continue reading

golden-globes-logo
The nominees for the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards have been announced and while we all know how the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) doesn’t really deserve to be taken seriously, I still think these awards are fun to watch. They’re entertaining, get you pumped for the Oscars and it’s always somewhat of a good time. Among the top nominees this year there are Spike Jonze’s Her, 12 Years a Slave, American HustleCaptain Phillips and Gravity. The official ceremony will take place on January 12th, 2014 at The Beverly Hilton and is hosted by Tina Fey & Amy Poehler. Take a look at the nominees in the film categories.  Continue reading

Sexy New Posters for Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac and More

A lot of new exciting Nymphomaniac news! I haven’t been updating for a while because it seemed like there was a new still, poster or clip released every day these past few weeks. However like sexual tension it can only build up so long before you just need a release. So here are a few goodies for you as the film’s debut in Denmark is nearing, Zentropa‘s promotion team is remembering audiences why they are considered marketing geniuses. With a film like Nymphomaniac, the very subject matter is controversial and enough to inspire media to write about it. Releasing sexy posters that get censored from Facebook and clips (the so called appetizers) that get removed from YouTube helps as well, of course. Not to worry, though: There’s always Vimeo and the film’s official website of course.  Continue reading

First Look at Aubrey Plaza in New Zombie Comedy ‘Life After Beth’

LifeafterBethSundanceFLphotofull02XL
Yes, ladies and gentlemen they’ve already announced the movies playing at Sundance 2014. Since the festival prides itself over the fact that it almost exclusively picks movies from new-comer directors or lesser known filmmakers sometimes the only guidelines we have when picking a Sundance indie is the cast. Being an Aubrey Plaza fan and seeing that the movie also stars the likes of John C. Reilly and Anna Kendrick (which never hurts) I’m going to put this one on the list of movies to watch out for next year. Looking at these first stills for the film I have to say I’m getting strong Warm Bodies vibes, which is not a bad thing, but let’s just hope that the film is original and not a trying to be that movie (which I really liked by the way).  Continue reading

Second Trailer for Spike Jonze’s ‘Her’

A Spike Jonze Love Story. What could be better? Spike Jonze’s Her remains my most anticipated film for 2013, a title previously held by his ex-wife Sofia Coppola and her new movie The Bling Ring. Precisely because of my excitement and and anticipation for Her I will force myself not to watch this second trailer. Problem is it becomes really hard to comment on something I haven’t even watched. At the same time however I want to contribute, even if not many people actually read this blog, to the buzz for the film, which is apparently really good. Getting such a romantic film from him is just a dream come true for a fan of the director such as myself.  Continue reading

Are You Being Serious? James Franco Still Wants You To ‘Consider This Sh*t’

springbreakers james franco alien
When A24 first asked Academy Voters to consider James Franco‘s performance as Alien in Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers many, myself included, viewed it as a marketing stunt. Since then however the studio has never stopped believing in the film and the iconic character it managed to create. Last week cult director John Waters singled out Spring Breakers as his favorite film of the year. The film holds a fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and also got mostly favorable reviews on Meta CriticContinue reading

Paul Walker’s Legacy

paul walker aura
I was incredibly saddened to hear about Paul Walker‘s untimely passing. The Californian actor best known for his role as Brian O’Conner in the Fast & Furious franchise died in a car crash yesterday in Valencia, Santa Clarita (California). He is survived by his fifteen year old daughter Meadow and I would just like to say that my thoughts and prayers go out to her, his family and the people who loved him.  Continue reading
