Watch: Spoof of Sofia Coppola’s Upcoming ‘Little Mermaid’ Film
Well, this is only mildly funny. A couple days ago Funny or Die posted a spoof for Sofia Coppola’s upcoming The Little Mermaid film. If you remember back in March it was announced that the Lost in Translation and Somewhere director was going to be at the helm of a live action adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson’s classic fairytale. Because this news seemed so outlandish and far from anything Coppola has done so far the internet didn’t waste anytime and sure enough we got our first spoof (and the movie isn’t even out yet). Watch & Listen: Elle Fanning Sees The Stars for the First Time in ‘First Stars I See Tonight’ Short Film
First Stars I See Tonight is a black & white animated/live-action cross-over short film. It narrates the story of a girl (Elle Fanning) with night blindness and how her dad (James Patrick Stuart) gets her these military goggles to see the stars. It’s a lot of voice-over narration, incessant I should say, but it’s quite a sweet story and it’s less than 3 minutes, so if it even sounds mildly interesting to you: Check it out! Continue reading
Check Out: Elle Fanning in Rodrigo Prieto’s Short Film LIKENESS
Who’s Rodrigo Prieto? You might ask. Valid question. I had no idea either. He’s a cinematographer. He has worked with some of the hottest directors on some of the hottest pictures: Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Amores Perros, Ang Lee’s Lust, Caution, Pedro Almodóvar’s Broken Embraces, Oliver Stone’s Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Cameron Crowe’s We Bought a Zoo and the upcoming Martin Scorsese film The Wolf of Wall Street (to name a few). Quite the résumé. I’m stunned his name didn’t stuck with me, because looking at his filmography, those are all beautiful looking films. After such impressive collaborations it looks like he’s ready to direct a something of his own. Continue reading
Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere (2010)
Johnny Marco (Stephen Dorff) is a famous Hollywood actor living at the Chateau Marmont. Between the routing that comes with promoting his films, getting awards and lending his face for special effects Johnny Marco is bored and on the verge of an existential crisis. His life feels empty, he’s literally spinning around in circles going nowhere. Even sex lost its taste. Everything suddenly changes when his eleven-year-old daughter Cleo (Elle Fanning) comes to live with him for a brief period of time. Johnny realizes that he’s been neglecting her and that he doesn’t know her at all. Spending some quality time with her on a trip to Milan, Italy something in him is awakened and he finally seems to want to take responsibility and be a part of Cleo’s life. Ending the film on a hopeful note, Marco finally seems to be going somewhere. Continue reading
