If I Were the Oscars 2014: My Favorite Film Achievements of 2013
I’m sure every year cinephiles all over the world are heartbroken or at the very least bummed that their favorite films of the year weren’t even considered by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. I still naively hope that it will get better the next year and that they might get it “right”, but it’s useless. I stopped believing that the 9-10 Best Pictures nominees represent the years best films. I don’t even watch all of the nominees anymore, just the ones that look interesting. Continue reading
Let’s Take a Break and Talk About Pharrell Williams’ Giant Hat for a Moment
I know this sounds like old news, because I’m sure you’ve all heard and seen famous rapper Pharrell Williams wearing this ridiculously big hat at the Grammys this year. However recently he became a “repeat offender” and wore a grey version of his ranger hat to the 86th Academy Awards Nominees Class Photo (during the 86th Academy Awards Nominee Luncheon). Seeing that he obviously loves this type of hat and that people making fun of it didn’t stop him from wearing it a second time, I thought I’d dig a little deeper to see if there was more to the story. Finally in. The much awaited Oscar Nominations! Take a look at the list below and let me know what you think. Do you agree with the Academy? Did they leave out anything you absolutely wanted to see on this list? Is it better or worse than other years or about on par? Just let me know what your thoughts are, I am very curious. Ellen DeGeneres To Host the 86th Academy Awards
She’s back! Seven years ago, back when Martin Scorsese’s The Departed won Best Picture, in 2007 Ellen DeGeneres hosted Hollywood’s biggest, most glamorous and possibly important event of the year. It seems that the newly appointed president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science was impressed with her, or the good rating she managed to get back then.
Here’s how she announced the news via twitter: “It’s official: I’m hosting the #Oscars! I’d like to thank @TheAcademy, my wife Portia and, oh dear, there goes the orchestra.” She also remarked “I am so excited to be hosting the Oscars for the second time. You know what they say — the third time’s the charm.” Sounds like she likes hosting the awards telecast.
Last year we had Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane presenting, and I thought he did a decent job, although some of his routine was a little boring and over-long. Ellen on the other hand is charming and has great comedic timing. She doesn’t seem like the kind of person to waste people’s time. I’m very excited for the Oscars and Oscar season. Maybe the new president will shake things up a little, but probably we’ll be getting more of the same ol’ same ol’. Either way I look forward to it. The ceremony takes place March 2nd, 2014!
