Film Analysis: Darren Aronofsky’s Noah (2014)
1. Introduction
I should probably preface this essay by saying that Darren Aronofsky is one of my favorite contemporary American filmmakers and that I am a born-again Christian. I will try to analyze Noah (2014) from a biblical standpoint and as a work of art. In the first section I’ll discuss how accurate and faithful Aronofsky is to the Bible text (Genesis chapters 6-9). Introduction
I am usually not very interested in understanding a film one hundred percent. I like a little mystery and certainly I prefer movies that don’t spell out everything for you. Film Analysis: Sono Sion’s Utsushimi (2000)
Introduction
Utsushimi (2000) is Sono Sion‘s ninth feature film. Before directing his first feature film Man’s Flower Road (Otoko no hanamichi) back in 1986, Sion was a writer and a poet. Only one year later he would gain worldwide popularity with his groundbreaking Suicide Club (Jisatsu sâkuru) which would be quoted by directors like Eli Roth. Utsushimi on the other hand seems to have inspired modern auteurs like Lars von Trier and Pedro Almodóvar. Continue reading
